Each year Lacuna recruits a new student team, offering paid opportunities to current University of Warwick students with strong creative and communication skills.
These positions are open to current undergraduate and postgraduate students of the University of Warwick only. You may apply for more than one role with Lacuna and you can find out more about us here and get a flavour of our content here. Our latest opportunities are below:
We are looking for artists to produce clear, eye-catching images that support our stories. For stories without supporting photography we call on artists and designers to produce creative images to sit alongside the text. The subject matter is not always easy to illustrate so we’re looking for bright ideas and imagination. After reading a story we’ll expect you to create basic sketches to give us a rough idea of what you plan to produce. You’ll work with the editor to come up with a final design.
An interest in human rights and sensitivity to the subjects we’re writing about is essential. A portfolio or Instagram profile showing your previous work is desirable. The successful candidates will be enthusiastic and reliable. We need you to have excellent time-management and organisation to deliver work to deadline. These roles operate on an ad hoc basis but are likely to require around 3 hours of work every week (at a mutually convenient time to be arranged with the editor). This position is paid at approx. £13 per hour.
To apply, please produce a basic piece of art relating to any story on our site that isn’t already accompanied by art. Email this as a jpg or PDF with your CV (including links to any relevant work) and a covering letter (max 250 words), both as PDFs, to email@example.com with the subject “Artist application” by midnight on Sunday 15th October 2023.
Content marketing assistant
We are looking for candidates who are keen to develop their content marketing skills, to promote our stories about human rights issues and to help us reach new audiences – online and offline. An interest in human rights is desirable and you’ll work with Lacuna’s editor to analyse how our stories and social posts have performed and to help us reach the widest possible audience.
Experience in collating and understanding website and/or social media analytics will stand you in good stead. Knowledge of social media platforms is essential, as is an understanding of the importance of tone of voice. We currently use Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Pinterest. We don’t expect you to know your way around GA4 analytics and the insights of every social media platform already – but we’ll need you to learn. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and reliable, and expected to work a weekly 4-hour shift (ideally every Wednesday, but this can be discussed) which may include researching SEO, analysing Google Analytics or generating social media plans. This position is paid at approx. £13 per hour.
To apply, please write a short promotional plan, explaining how you will grow our audience over the next 12 months. Email this with your CV, links to any relevant work and a covering letter (max 250 words), all as PDFs, to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject “Content marketing application” by midnight on Sunday 15th October 2023.
